My telegram No. 745.
t my request Calder-arshal is holding up reply on lines
of my immediately preceding telegram to his friend in Hankow
(Han Li-vu) as I have informed him that I ai consulting you as
to whether he should continue to play any part in these
unofficial peace negotiations. May I have your instructions
please as soon as possible?
Personally I see no reason why he should not continue his
conversations with Hankow provided he maintains the present
close contact with me.
Draft of Calder-arshal's proposed reply to Han Li-wu is
contained in my telegram No. 745.
Addressed to Foreign ffice No. 744 December 17th; repeated
to reking and Tokyo.
